Meet the Member: HITGS’ Seohee Talks Discipline, IU Dreams, and Vocal Identity

by Hasan Beyaz

To celebrate HITGS’s official debut, we caught up with each member individually.

Say hello to Seohee — HITGS’s powerhouse vocalist with a warm heart and razor-sharp focus. Once a rising rhythmic gymnast, she now channels that same discipline into her music, inspired by her role model IU. The result? A voice that balances purity, power, and poise.

KPOPWORLD: You bring a real sense of elegance and control to your vocals. How has your background as a rhythmic gymnast shaped your relationship to performance?

Seohee: Since I did rhythmic gymnastics from a young age, I got used to using my body and performing in front of people at competitions. Being comfortable on stage helped ease my nerves, and that allowed me to show more of what I practiced—so I could enjoy the moment more fully while dancing and singing.

You’ve mentioned IU as a role model. What’s something about her artistry you admire, and how did that influence your own artistry?

Seohee: I really look up to IU sunbaenim’s presence on stage and the way she fully immerses herself in each performance. These days, I’m studying how to make the stage feel like it’s truly mine. When I sing, I try to connect with the lyrics and the mood of the song, and I practice so that I can share exactly what I’m feeling with the audience.

As the main vocalist, you’re often expected to “deliver”, both technically and emotionally. How do you take care of your voice under that pressure?

Seohee: The night before an important schedule, I always make sure to drink warm tea or honey water. It warms up my throat and helps me feel more comfortable the next day.

What’s a vocal moment in “SOURPATCH” or “Never Be Me” that you connected with on a deeper level?

Seohee: During recording, the director told me to sing in a lighter tone. As I practiced singing that way, I realized that sometimes singing lightly fits the song better than pouring all my strength into it. That was when I learned a new vocal technique, and I think it helped me grow.

In a group setting, your voice needs to shine but also blend. How do you find your balance between individuality and harmony?

Seohee: When we sing together, I adjust my tone to blend with the group. But when it’s time for my solo parts, I look for ways to highlight my vocal color. I’m always working on maintaining that balance—so that HITGS sounds beautifully in sync, while also making sure my parts have a unique point.

If someone heard your voice with no visuals, what kind of image or feeling do you hope it would paint?

Seohee: I hope they feel warmth and emotion in my voice. More than anything, I want them to feel the atmosphere of the song and the message I’m trying to share—softly and sincerely.
