Meet The Member: An Interview with IDID’s Chu Yoochan – The Empathetic Vocalist Known as Mr. CHU
by Hasan Beyaz

To celebrate IDID’s official debut, we caught up with each member individually.
With a nickname like “Mr. CHU,” Chu Yoochan embraces playfulness while also standing out for his magnetic vocal tone. Thoughtful and empathetic, he approaches singing as an act of storytelling, immersing himself in lyrics until they feel like his own. For Yoochan, IDID itself is his safe space, a place where he can be both comforted and expressive, and he hopes that sincerity reaches fans through every note he sings.
1. Your nickname “Mr. CHU” is already memorable — what does it mean to you to carry such a playful name?
The nickname ‘Mr. CHU’ is already special to me. It came from my name but also feels like it helps me come across as closer and friendlier to our fans. ‘Mr. CHU’ is also fun and easy to remember so it’s meaningful because our fans can smile when they think of me.
2. You’ve said you’re good at finding safe spaces. Where is your safe space within IDID?
My safe space within IDID is the members. We go through tough times and good times together, and they’re the ones who understand and comfort me the most. I can open up to them whenever I talk to them so our members are my biggest safe space for me.
3. People notice your magnetic vocal tone. Which song on the album highlights it best?
I believe ‘CHAN-RAN’ shows my vocals the best. My vocal tone follows the song’s emotional flow, giving both a sense of freedom and freshness. I hope our fans can hear my sincerity in my vocal when they listen to it.
4. INFJs are often described as empathetic. How does that influence the way you sing?
As an INFJ, empathy is important to me. I don’t see lyrics as words, I try to feel what someone in that situation would feel and make the song as my own when I sing. I believe that’s why listeners could immerse themselves in our music.
5. When you imagine fans listening to I did it. alone in their rooms, what feeling do you hope they take away from your voice?
I want our fans to feel comfort and courage just by listening to my voice. If our song can make someone’s day even a little bit brighter, that’s the greatest gift I could ever wish for.
