Mamamoo's Numerical Odyssey

M amamoo is the embodiment of authenticity. The four-member girl group, which debuted in 2014, is renowned for their industry stereotypes and Korean beauty standard defiance. The group is also known for their unique music style, encompassing jazz, retro, and contemporary hip-hop. Their music has been commended for its empowering messages, addressing self-love and female empowerment. Additionally, they have captivated audiences with their powerful vocals, intricate melodies, and show-stopping stage presence. Many music critics and fans have consistently praised them for including ad-libs during live performances. Experts lauded them for their singing prowess and poise on stage from their debut, compared to many rookies.

Consisting of Solar, Moon Byul, Whee In, and Hwasa, Mamamoo was the first Rainbow Bridge World (RBW) girl group to debut. The group's name, which includes the universally shared term "Mama," reflects their desire to connect with various audiences through their music, like basic instincts. Since debut, Mamamoo's music has connected with audiences, resulting in many awards and achievements. Let's commemorate their ninth anniversary with a list of the milestones and statistics that have shaped their career.

The number of minutes it took Mamamoo to sell out their first fan meeting, dubbed "1st MOO Party." The group sold all 1,184 tickets and added an event due to demand. Hence, on August 23, 2015, they held two events at the Olympic Park in Seoul, entertaining about 2,400 fans.

The number of minutes it took Mamamoo to sell out their 2018 '4Season S/S' tour, demonstrating Mamamoo's ticketing power. The two-day concert, held from August 18 to August 19, was Mamamoo's first solo concert in a year and five months.

The quartet featured BUMKEY on their first pre-debut release, "Don't be happy," and hip-hop duo Geeks on their third pre-debut song, "Heeheehaheho." Mamamoo made stops in New York, Baltimore, Atlanta, Nashville, and Fort Worth. The last four cities included Chicago, Glendale, Oakland, and Los Angeles. According to the live ticket hub, Touring Data, Mamaoo's My Con" ranks among the top 5 highest-grossing tours by female Asian acts in US history. The tour reportedly generated $9.2 million from 64K tickets sold in nine shows.

The number of Korean drama soundtracks as a collective: As a vocally powerful group, Mamamoo has lent their vocals to nine Korean dramas' original soundtracks (OST). Popular dramas such as "Goblin," "Dr.Romantic 2," and "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" have had their soundtracks sung by the quartet. Individually, each member has participated in the soundtrack of at least one drama. Solar has contributed to seven soundtracks, Moon Byul, and Hwasa have each contributed to one, and Whee In has worked on eight.

2015

The year Mamamoo performed in Mongolia for the first time. The quartet performed alongside Crayon Pop and K-Much to commemorate the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and South Korea.

2016

The year Mamamoo held their first solo concert, Moosical," at the Olympic Hall in Seoul from August 13 to 14, 2016. The tickets for the two-day event sold out in one minute, proving their popularity.

2017

The year Mamamoo made their Billboard World Albums chart debut with their fifth extended play, Purple. The five-track album sold 1,000 copies, their highest US sales then.

2018

The year Mamamoo entered the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart for the first time with their Red Moon EP.

2019

The Year Mamamoo earned their first #1 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart with their hit song "Hip." "Hip" initially debuted at #5 on the prestigious chart and moved to the top spot a week later. Mamamoo became the fourth K-pop girl group to achieve this feat.

2021

The year Mamamoo officially became a million-seller group after selling a total of 1,119,601 physical albums on Gaon.

The number of followers Mamamoo has on Instagram. The quartet ranks among the top 10 K-pop girl groups with the most followers on Instagram. Mamamoo officially joined Instagram on August 4, 2015.

The number of views on "Hip," Mamamoo's most-viewed music video. The song, released on November 14, 2019, is the title track from Reality in Black, their third studio album. It was their first music video to surpass 200 million views in a year, one month, one day, and 15 hours after its release. As of June 23, 2023, it had garnered 5.1 million likes on the online video-sharing platform.

1.6 billion

The number of YouTube views Mamamoo had accumulated across 604 videos in 2021. At the time, the girl group had 6.07 million subscribers on their YouTube channel.

2.1 billion

The total number of streams Mamamoo has recorded on the streaming site Melon. Now a member of the Silver Club, Mamamoo picked up their trophy on June 21, 2023.
