Jessi: Carving Her Own Path

Jessica Ho, known by her stage name Jessi, is an American rapper and singer who has carved a distinctive niche in the South Korean music industry. Born on December 17, 1988, in New York and raised in New Jersey, Jessi moved to South Korea at the age of 15 to pursue her musical career. She debuted in 2005 and briefly joined the hip-hop group Uptown in 2006. After a hiatus, she returned to the spotlight as part of the hip-hop trio Lucky J and later as a soloist under YMC Entertainment. Her journey saw another significant turn when she became the first artist to sign with Psy's label, P Nation, in 2019.

Jessi's early career was marked by a series of significant transitions. She debuted with the single album Get Up in 2005 and joined Uptown in 2006, replacing their original vocalist Yoon Mi-rae. Her second single album, The Rebirth, was released in 2009 before she took a break and returned to America. In 2014, she re-emerged as a member of the hip-hop trio Lucky J under YMC Entertainment, releasing the digital single "Can You Hear Me." Her participation in the first season of Unpretty Rapstar in 2015 catapulted her to mainstream popularity, where she placed second, earning her recognition and setting the stage for future success.
Following her rise on Unpretty Rapstar, Jessi continued to build her presence in the Korean music scene. She featured in JYP's single "Who's Your Mama?" in 2015, which topped major music charts in Korea. Her solo rap single "Ssenunni" followed that same year. Jessi's momentum continued with her participation in Sister's Slam Dunk in 2016 and the release of her first mini-album, Un2verse, in 2017. Songs like "Gucci" and "Down" further established her as a formidable solo artist with a unique style and strong presence.

Jessi's career took a significant leap forward when she signed with Psy's P Nation in 2019. Her first single under the label, "Who Dat B," marked her entry into the global music charts, followed by "Drip" featuring Jay Park. The release of her second extended play, Nuna, in 2020, and its lead single "Nunu Nana," became her highest-charting solo single. Jessi also joined the cast of the variety show Hangout with Yoo, forming the supergroup Refund Sisters, whose debut single "Don't Touch Me" topped the Gaon Digital Chart.
In addition to her music career, Jessi became a prominent figure in Korean variety shows, hosting her YouTube talk show Jessi's Showterview and participating in programs like Sixth Sense. Her digital single "What Type of X" in 2021 and the collaborative track "Cold Blooded" with the show Street Woman Fighter highlighted her versatility and appeal. Jessi's viral hit "Zoom" in 2022 further solidified her status in the industry. After leaving P Nation, she briefly signed with Jay Park's label More Vision before parting ways in early 2024.
