JAY B of GOT7 is set to return with his third single Chptr. 1 on October 27, announced his agency 528Hz on Tuesday.
According to the announcement, Chptr. 1 will act as the first in a series of singles which intends to take a different direction than his mini and studio albums. It will consist of two songs, “Honeydew” and “Sweetie.”
What that new direction is remains unclear – as does whether it will affect the music itself – but design choices within the scheduler see shifting gray shapes, pixels and ink smears, presenting a faded effect. The same style has been used for the standard Dual ver. of the physical edition and makes up the primary visual concept. That choice is likely to be reflected within the single’s narrative or tone, potentially moving away from the R&B that JAY B typically showcases as a soloist.
Chptr. 1 comes four months after the June release of JAY B’s third mini album TR.EE and its title track “Layback,” which centered on human relationships and the underlying emptiness that rises as people grow closer. It marked his first project after a 3-year and 8-month hiatus, and his first listed completely under the management of his independent company 528Hz. Established in 2022, the company had been associated with his previous solo releases and projects published under the producer moniker Def., but this year saw JAY B named CEO and all fan community operations transferred to the company.
The announcement of a new single signals that JAY B plans to continue with promotions and to establish himself as a consistent solo artist, moving away from his hiatus. Not only that, but it opens a distinct, planned-out series that promises future activities and the development of JAY B’s musical identity. Now with full control over 582Hz and his own projects, he is able to take a new direction on his own terms.
JAY B recently concluded his 2026 JAY B ‘tape: roots’ U.S. tour, which followed a successful opening leg across Asia. With seven shows in Asia and six in the United States, he is building a strong touring record and reinstating his presence in the industry.
He is also scheduled to take the stage with fellow GOT7 members BamBam and Mark at the ‘2026 K*Pop Masterz SPECIAL LIVE IN BANGKOK’ in Thailand in November, and its sell-out displays the continued interest in JAY B and the other GOT7 members as soloists. Given its November 4 release date, the SPECIAL LIVE will act as promotion for Chptr. 1 and sets JAY B up for its promotional period.
Pre-orders for the new single opened on October 6.
