To celebrate WHIB’s comeback with CHERRY PIE, we caught up with each member individually.
For WONJUN, finding his own style has become inseparable from becoming more comfortable with himself. He describes a shift from feeling that everything had to be perfect towards trusting his strengths and allowing himself to enjoy the process. That self-awareness also informs how he approaches WHIB’s identity: versatility matters, but so does knowing what makes each member distinct. On stage, he feels most satisfied when he can lose himself in the music and connect naturally with both the other members and their fans.
Looking further ahead, WONJUN hopes WHIB will be remembered not only for having a distinct colour, but for continuing to challenge themselves and genuinely enjoying the journey along the way.
You’re known for balance across different skills. How do you maintain that without losing individuality?
WONJUN I think focusing on what I do well while also trying to find my own style helps me maintain my individuality. Knowing my strengths and being honest with myself are especially important.
How has your confidence changed over time?
I think I’ve become more comfortable with who I am. In the past, I felt like I had to do everything perfectly, but now I try to trust myself more and enjoy the process.
When do you feel you’ve done your job well on stage?
I think I’ve done my job well when I can forget about everything else and fully enjoy the stage. If I’m completely immersed in the music and able to connect with the members and our fans, I feel satisfied with the performance.
What kind of legacy would you like WHIB to leave behind?
I hope WHIB is remembered as a group that always challenged ourselves with new things and had a distinct color of our own. I also hope people can feel that we truly enjoyed this journey.
