iKON: Laughter Has Not Turned Into Tears

It’s difficult when the main songwriter, leader, or face of a K-pop group leaves the group—let alone all three. It’s enough to make some K-pop groups fall apart. But not iKON.
Before their official debut, the members participated in a couple of survival shows—WIN: Who is Next and Mix & Match, gaining popularity before even debuting. iKON then debuted on September 15, 2015, under YG Entertainment. Initially, the group comprised seven members: B.I, Bobby, Jay, Ju-ne, Song, DK, and Chan. Even though B.I departed from the group in 2019, iKON stayed strong as a six-member boy group.

iKON’s music is as authentic as it is emotional. The group’s fandom, iKONIC, appreciate their genuine approach to music. One example of this is their song, “Why Why Why,” that asks, “why has laughter turned into tears?” A relatable question for anyone who’s experienced a breakup.
iKON’s music ranges from hip-hop to R&B, and each member contributes significantly to the group’s sound, but especially B.I, the group’s former leader and main producer. B.I played a huge role in crafting the group’s unique sound. Songs like “Love Scenario” showcase each member’s unique abilities, from vocals to dancing.
Although iKON has faced internal changes and public scrutiny, the group has remained committed to music with an unyielding focus. Despite not winning Kingdom, their appearance on the show heightened their popularity.

iKON is truly iconic (get it?) with their unique music, passionate spirits, and authentic lyrics. Despite B.I leaving, the group has no plans of slowing down, so fans can look forward to more years of good music to come.
