GAHO: The man who said “Start Over”

By Nandini Iyengar

K-dramas have often featured singers who have left a lasting mark on their listeners. More than being a song, a K-drama OST (official soundtrack) heightens the mood in the story, saying more than what a character can say themself. Ask any fan, and they can list out a whole playlist of their favorite OSTs. Several singers find their calling in singing OSTs and eventually branch out to pursue their own path as soloists.

Kang Dae Ho, popularly known as Gaho is one of the most well-known K-drama OST singers. Gaho began his journey in 2018 with an OST for the K-drama The Time. In the same year, he released his first EP Preparation for a Journey. He then subsequently featured in more K-drama OSTs and released singles until 2020 when he gained newfound success. He shot to fame with the song “Start Over” featured in the K-drama Itaewon Class starring Park Seo Joon and Kim Da Mi in the lead. The song is one of the most iconic K-dramas OSTs till date, sitting with the likes of “Stay With Me” by Punch and EXO’s Chanyeol for the K-drama Goblin. Gaho is also noted for his cover songs of BTS’ “Fire” and BLACKPINK’s “How You Like That.”

But he has more to his credit than just K-drama OSTs. He released his first full-length album Fireworks in 2021. Gaho is also a part of the K-indie band KAVE. KAVE is the acronym for Kings Always Have Veiled Egos. KAVE was started in 2020 when five musicians, namely, Gaho, Keninu, Ownr, Hyun, and Bgnt came together. Despite being around for about four years, the group released its debut EP Flight of Ideas in July this year.
