Daily Non-K-Pop Spotlight: “Yeah” by TRPP

Music has the inexplicable power to wipe out your current emotions and whisk you away into faraway places. Not every song does this, but when an artist nails the sound, it’s a truly magical, transformative experience for the listener. “Yeah” might not be that sort of track for everyone, but it most certainly was for this writer.

"Yeah" is an incredible wash of a song that feels like nostalgic euphoria, yet it wisely doesn't ever expand into anything bigger than it needs to. If that doesn’t make sense, just go listen to the song. It’s not nearly as ‘big’ as many other songs in the shoegaze realm, but it still fills the space completely. Something something big fish little pond. The track has this beautiful, hypnotic rocking motion that, instead of lulling the listener to sleep, builds them up for excitement ahead. (Fun fact: an alternate recording of the song, titled "Yeah (Round and Round)" was featured as a theme in the K-drama Inspector Koo.) “Yeah” is just one of those near-perfect tracks. I’m not sure what could have been done to make it better, but it’s dang good as is.
