Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Is Coming” by DTSQ

Isolated, crunchy guitar opens this piece before Beatles-esque gang vocals enter on the hook. It then drops into a riff so heavy (but vintage) that it’d make the White Album blush. The vocals feel psychedelic without being trippy, and the guitar production is wonderfully lush with great moments that feature distinct and memorable sounds (we’re looking at you 1:15).
Don’t even get us started about the song title. Ghostbusters is one of our all time favorite films. We love that Korean indie bands are so obsessed with the 80s. Even with a band like DTSQ that doesn’t sound 80s at all, they still found a way to incorporate that love and we’re so here for it.
DTSQ hasn’t released a record since 2020, but their stuff is good enough to binge. If you like this track, take a deep dive. Maybe we can bring them out of retirement?
