Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Space Angel” by Parasol

By Parasol

Although unofficially inactive today, Parasol brought together the talents of Chi Yoon Hae, Naeun Kim, and Jung Won Jin. This cross-pollination of talent is a staple in Hongdae’s DIY music scene, where genre boundaries blur and collaboration reigns supreme.

Infused with a deep love for ‘60s and ‘70s psychedelia, Parasol channels the hazy malaise of Korean summer afternoons with their effortless, jangly sound. “Space Angel” – a collaboration with Silica Gel – sees Parasol pushing those boundaries. Its climax is edgier, more aggressive, with more crunch and bite than normal without losing the core of their sound. It has a darker undercurrent than most of their tracks.

Parasol’s fusion of nostalgic soundscapes and introspective lyrics, with the added oomph of Silica Gel, makes for a compelling listen. This song echoes the timeless allure of vintage psychedelia while exploring the complex terrain of modern emotion.
