Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Restructuring” by HAGA
By HAGA

From the first second of this four-minute track, the listener is struck with a sensation so powerful, so unmistakable, so undeniable: It’s funk. “Restructuring” is funky as all get out, and it doesn’t matter how many times you’ve listened to it or for how long, you’ll find yourself grooving and jiving to the absolute funk of this piece. Musically, the track is pretty simple, employing only voice, guitar, and a funky ensemble of basses over the most simple of drum beats for most of the track. But that simplicity doesn’t restrict the flow; if anything, it enhances the groove.
One of the coolest moments is a fake-out faux ending. Many songs try this sort of extended silence trick, but few commit to the bit quite as effectively as “Restructuring.” And just when you think the track actually is done, the vocals come back in and you’re treated to more funky good vibes. Did I mention the track is funky?
