Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Haven” by Brinicle Rain
By Brinicle Rain

Diving back into some harder music, we’d like to introduce our readers to Brinicle Rain. They’re a metalcore band breathing new life into the Korean metal scene. While their output hasn’t been super consistent, they’ve been releasing music since 2019. Gamma is their first record since they dropped a standalone single in 2021, and it’s excellent.
The guitars on “Haven” are amped up to insane degrees. Crunchy, grindy, and brutal, they mesh perfectly with heavy bass and technically proficient drum performances. The production on this track turns the guitars into an almost electronic instrument in the intro, with heavy sidechaining/isolation under some levitating synths.
The thing we love most about Brinicle Rain is how effectively they create sonic juxtaposition. The clean vocals are legato, full of long, pretty melodic lines that pair interestingly with the rolling guitars and double kick. When the dirty vocals come in, the song feels more true to the genre – but what gives these guys an edge is their ability to deliver true metalcore while making it genuinely beautiful.
