Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Extinction” by THORNAPPLE

What’s better than a furiously clean, funk rock guitar riff? Two furiously clean, funk rock guitar riffs. “Extinction” by K Indie rock outfit THORNAPPLE features interlocking guitar parts that lock in so well that if they weren’t panned hard left and hard right, it would be difficult to separate them.
The opening track from their 2023 EP Animal, this song is danceable and angsty, with a straight ahead bass part punctuated by funky slaps. The song knows when to hold back, though, with dreamy, washy guitar and half time drums washing over the listener at points to build tension before dropping into an anthemic chorus or a rippin’ guitar solo.
The second half of the guitar solo features some of the strangest electric guitar effects we’ve ever heard. You’ve gotta hear it for yourself.
