In this week’s K-pop releases, SHINee’s back to put their stamp of approval on the re-emergence of house music, BoA returns with her first single since going independent, and XIA (Kim Junsu) finally breaks the decade-long wait for a new studio album. Elsewhere, girl group MEOVV is calling out the haters in one of their best B-sides to date, while rock band N.Flying bestows luck and good vibes to its listeners in a breathtakingly bright single.
SHINee - “Atmos”
Nothing solidifies the current house music trend like the Kings of K-pop House themselves, SHINee. In their latest title track, “Atmos,” the quartet returns with a dreamy take on house, infusing glitchy electronic synths to create a euphoric atmosphere. Considering the second-gen veterans were credited with popularizing house music in K-pop with 2015’s “View,” it makes sense that the group would tackle the sound again with a new perspective and a refreshing take on the genre. Some are calling “Atmos” a grown-up version of “View” — with SHINee having matured and transformed so much over the last decade, it’s not hard to see it any other way.
MEOVV - “Hit ‘Em”
Eight months since their last comeback, girl group MEOVV has entered the chat with their second EP, BITE NOW. Although the trap-laden and Bach-infused title track, “DDI RO RI,” sits as the centerpiece of this record, it’s the dark and edgy B-side, “Hit ‘Em,” that truly represents the “bite” in BITE NOW. With a propulsive energy and a bassline so deep you can feel it in your chest, “Hit ‘Em” is MEOVV’s warning to the world not to underestimate them: “I’m a lot to handle / I don’t think you can handle that / Last one who tried to play me / Go ahead, ask ’em how they managing,” Ella sings in a sweet voice. But don’t let the sweetness fool you — mess with MEOVV, and they won’t hesitate to bite back.
BoA - “Ain’t No Hard Feelings”
After spending 25 years as one of SM Entertainment’s legacy-defining artists, BoA is back with “Ain’t No Hard Feelings.” The digital release marks the singer’s first output since parting with SM in December 2025 and establishing her own agency, BAPal Entertainment, soon after. Musically, BoA sinks her teeth into the UK garage genre, with the infectious beat acting as an exclamation for the first-gen icon’s newfound freedom and independent endeavors. With a splashy chorus and BoA’s signature vocals sweeping the track, it’s like watching a bird spread its wings and fly off into the sunset — there’s no telling where she’ll end up next.
XIA - “Gravity”
After a decade-long wait, legendary singer XIA (Kim Junsu) is back with his fifth Korean studio album, GRAVITY, and its eponymous title track. While his 2016 single, “Rock The World,” was a daring fusion of hip-hop, EDM, and pop, “Gravity” dives headfirst into an electronic-house soundscape, bolstered by heavy bass and rhythmic synthesizers. Like its coinciding music video, the track is both gritty and mysterious, pulling the listener into a club-ready trance that speaks for itself.
N.Flying - “In Between Seasons”
In their first comeback of the year, Korean rock band N.Flying has returned with its new digital single, “In Between Seasons.” Described as a pop-rock track featuring dramatic chord progressions, “In Between Seasons” is a colorful delight of hopefulness and fresh starts. With the song co-written and composed by N.Flying leader Lee Seunghyub, the lyrics carry a message of optimism and good fortune to come to listeners regularly, rather than every blue moon, whether that good fortune is love, new endeavors, or anything that makes life exciting.
