Collab Corner: Spongebob x Snoop Dogg x Monsta X

By monsta x

Did you know that K-pop boy group Monsta X has a song with legendary American rapper Snoop Dogg? Even more surprising, did you know that the song was written for SPONGEBOB of all things?

Truth truly is stranger than fiction sometimes, as the song “How We Do” proves. Snoop is no stranger to working with K-pop stars and has done collaborations with Girls’ Generation, BTS, PSY, and more over the course of his career. The hip-hop star has also served as a guest judge on shows like Show Me the Money, and has performed at award ceremonies like the MAMAs multiple times.

This enthusiasm for diverse genres and collaborators is completely within Snoop’s norms though, as he has shown a penchant for working with artists all over the musical spectrum. A common internet joke is that Snoop is just doing side quests at this point, and we don’t doubt this song was the result of one of those side quests.

The track itself was made for the movie The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run and features in the movie during a scene where Spongebob and Patrick face off against a horde of dancing cowboy zombies. (No, we are not making this up!) The song is upbeat, aggressive, and fun, which falls right in line with the discography of both Snoop and Monsta X.

Members of the boy group described the opportunity to collaborate as feeling “unrealistic at first” due to the popularity of both Spongebob and Snoop. While they didn’t get a chance to work in-person with the legendary rapper, they were still excited they had the chance to be featured on the same track and were excited about how “How We Do” turned out.

While it’s not the weirdest thing ever, there’s still a whole lot of question marks about how this whole thing happened. Rather than be too confused though, we’ll just be happy it happened. Check out “How We Do” below!
