Chungha To Release Digital Single “México” on September 1
by Isabel Miller

Chungha is set to release a new digital single titled “México” on September 1, 2026.
The announcement, shared by Chungha’s agency MORE VISION, came accompanied with a video teaser which sees Chungha in a wasteland at night, loading a tape into a cassette player. The song’s title appears in bold red typography, matching the orange and red tones colouring the setting and Chungha’s appearance.
It also came with a unique opportunity for audience participation. Where the majority of artists reveal the album covers for their new releases in the early stages of promotions, Chungha has shared three possible options and opened a fan vote to choose the winning image. This immerses fans into the process of promotions, driving engagement, and immediately makes the announcement stand out. It also highlights the focus on meaningful storytelling that Chungha has expressed since her agency change in 2023, harnessing the increased creative control she has under MORE VISION.

Chungha debuted in 2016 as a member of I.O.I, formed through Mnet's survival show Produce 101. When I.O.I disbanded in 2017, she launched her solo career with the mini album Hands on Me, since releasing two studio albums, five mini albums, and three single albums. Her fifth mini album Alivio and the viral "EENIE MEENIE," featuring ATEEZ's Hongjoong, both drew significant attention online and cemented her reputation as one of K-pop's more consistent solo acts.
Since the beginning of 2026, Chungha has been active as both a group member and soloist. She participated in the release and promotions of I.O.I : LOOP and its title track “Suddenly,” I.O.I’s first release since 2017 in celebration of the group’s 10th anniversary. Despite their nine year hiatus, “Suddenly” climbed to the top of multiple of South Korea’s major music platforms, including MelOn, Genie, Bugs, and FLO. In February, she also released the solo single “Save me” in celebration of her birthday, which peaked at 35 on Bugs.
Both projects will bolster the reception of “México,” her first non-commemorative release of the year. “Save me” had a comforting tone, its lyrics offering support against the monotony of daily life, but the initial orange-toned teaser for “México” suggests a darker, fiery tone.
With "México," Chungha steps out from commemorative releases into new territory – and the tonal shift of the new teaser suggests she's arriving with something intentionally different.
