Best Song from ZICO's Grown Ass Kid

ZICO’s most recent mini-album to be released was 2022’s Grown Ass Kid. A breezy 15-16 minute listen, its 5 tracks are all solid. But, in my opinion, the best of the bunch is “Trash Talk” featuring CHANGMO. It opens with smooth harmonies over some gorgeously lofi wah guitar before dropping into what feels like an old school hip hop beat if all the snares were replaced with island-style rim clicks. The back and forth between ZICO and CHANGMO is fun and full of smooth, self assured swagger as guitar licks, horns, and organ dance around the verses. Of all the tracks on the record, this one’s unique instrumentation sets it apart.
