AleXa: “Real-Life AI”

AleXa, born Alexaundra Christine Schneiderman, has made a unique mark in K-pop as an American artist thriving in the South Korean music industry. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to a South Korean mother and Russian-American father, AleXa's deep connection to her cultural heritage played a key role in her artistic journey. From a young age, she immersed herself in various forms of dance, from ballet to hip hop, and was an active participant in show choirs throughout her high school years. This passion for performance continued into her college experience at Tulsa Community College, where she studied theater. Her love for K-pop led her to create social media accounts dedicated to covering songs and choreography, setting the stage for her eventual leap into the industry.

AleXa first entered the K-pop spotlight through Soompi’s Rising Legends contest, where she emerged as a standout talent. Despite winning first place in multiple categories, she didn’t initially secure a contract with major entertainment companies like JYP or Cube Entertainment. Instead, she signed with ZB Label in 2018, marking her as their first official artist. Her appearance on the Mnet survival show Produce 48 helped further solidify her growing presence in the K-pop scene, even though she was eliminated early in the competition. These early experiences laid the foundation for what would become an electric solo career.

Her debut single, “Bomb,” released in October 2019, marked AleXa’s official entry into K-pop. Her subsequent works like Do or Die and Decoherence continued to explore her AI-inspired persona and futuristic aesthetics. AleXa’s 2020 collaborations with Dreamcatcher and IN2IT on the single “Be The Future” demonstrated her versatility, addressing global issues like education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The same year, her work with girl group Rolling Quartz on the rock version of "Xtra" further solidified her eclectic sound, blending traditional K-pop elements with rock and electronic influences.
In 2022, AleXa reached a broader audience by representing Oklahoma in NBC’s American Song Contest. Performing her original track "Wonderland," she captured attention with her powerful performance and took home the grand prize. This achievement brought her both national and international recognition, further cementing her as a unique artist who bridges the gap between the American and South Korean music scenes. The success of her U.S. tour and releases like Girls Gone Vogue and “Tattoo” continued to push her career to new heights.
Recently, AleXa has taken significant strides in the U.S. market. In 2023, she signed with Eshy Gazit's Intertwine label, marking a shift in her promotion strategy. Her latest single, "Juliet," filmed on Jeju Island, and the 2024 release “Sick,” which is part of her upcoming American studio album, show her continued evolution as an artist who refuses to be confined to one genre or market.
