aespa stirs up a "Hot Mess" with tantalizing new music video

aespa made their Japanese debut with the maxi single titled "Hot Mess," featuring the eponymous lead track. Unlike traditional singles, a maxi single includes more songs on the tracklist beyond just an A-side and B-side. The lively and carefree dance-pop track immediately recalls the early days of BLACKPINK, with its vibrant use of pink, purple, and fuchsia, eye-catching visuals, dramatic props, and impeccable styling.
However, what truly distinguishes aespa’s approach is the subtle nod to Japanese pop culture. The outfits draw inspiration from Gundam, a Japanese military sci-fi franchise, with a touch of Sailor Moon, and magical transformations reminiscent of the 2000s animated series Winx Club, where ordinary girls transform into fairies with superpowers.
"Hot Mess" features high production value and exceptional music quality, and as the Gen-Z would put it, it’s a total bop!
