Jay B: Switchin’ it Up

Jay B, also known as Lim Jae-beom, is a versatile singer, songwriter, and actor who leads the boy band Got7, is part of the duo JJ Project and sub-unit Jus2, and is a member of the R&B soul crew Offshore as Def. Born in Siheung and raised in Goyang, Jay B's dream of becoming a singer was ignited after watching g.o.d. perform. His journey began with b-boying in middle school, eventually leading him to be scouted by JYP Entertainment. Initially focused on dancing, his passion for singing and composing blossomed after exposure to artists like D'Angelo.

Jay B's career took off in 2011 with a role in Dream High 2, which aired in early 2012. He debuted as part of JJ Project in May 2012, and later, in January 2014, as a member of Got7. His early career was marked by notable acting roles and musical debuts that established his presence in the entertainment industry. In 2015, he starred in Dream Knight, a web drama, alongside his Got7 members, showcasing his acting skills.

His solo career began to flourish in 2019 with the debut of Jus2 and the release of his EP Focus. Jay B continued to expand his artistic horizons, collaborating on various projects and launching his own clothing line. His departure from JYP Entertainment in 2021 marked a new chapter, signing with H1ghr Music and releasing his first solo single "Switch It Up," which made significant achievements on the Billboard R&B Digital Song Sales Chart. His debut EP SOMO and participation in cultural campaigns further highlighted his evolving career.

In 2022, Jay B released his first physical EP Love. under his moniker Def., earning accolades from Bandwagon and Rolling Stone India. His Nostalgic concert marked a decade in the industry, followed by the Be Yourself EP and a world tour. Despite his enlistment in mandatory military service in 2023, he continued to release music, including the special album Seasonal Hiatus. Recently, he signed with Mauve Company, signaling ongoing support for his multifaceted career.

Throughout his journey, Jay B has faced personal challenges, including clinical depression and a difficult family background. Nevertheless, he has been actively involved in philanthropy, contributing to various causes, including disaster relief and child welfare. His donations and ambassador roles reflect his commitment to giving back to the community, solidifying his legacy not only as an artist but also as a compassionate individual.
