Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Vanilla Sundae” by ALEPH

Sometimes, modern music treats the bass like it’s dead. It’s almost like modern music treats it like it’s an instrument to automate or hide behind the rest of the music. But not ALEPH. He opens “Vanilla Sundae” with a fuzzy, melodic bass line front and center – and it never lets up. It’s refreshing to hear an artist treat the bass with both reverence and enthusiasm. It could be argued that the bass line is the centerpiece of this track.

That’s not to say that the rest of the song isn’t important. Far from it. This is a tight, danceable, melodic number. ALEPH’s falsetto vocals and vocoder-infused harmonies are incredibly fun and add a really delicate approach to an otherwise aggressively driven song. If you’re looking for a new toe tapper to add to your Korean Indie Playlist, “Vanilla Sundae” is for you.
