Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Root It Out” by Conut
작성자: Conut

One thing you ought to know is that Korean indie music has no shortage of phenomenal bass players. “Root It Out” by Conut largely succeeds because of the melodic bass line and its round, growly tone. It literally carries the song for the first 20 seconds or so, paired brilliantly with bright, thin drums to give it more space to shine.

When Conut enters, the song is immediately elevated. She’s got the kind of voice that would’ve landed her an iPod commercial placement out west in the 00s. It’s sweet, but mysterious. Melodic, but relaxed. Hypnotic, but exciting.
The guitars are funky, but restrained. The synths vibe over it all, providing much-craved harmony without cluttering the soundscape. The whole thing manages to be danceable while feeling incredibly spacious. “Root It Out” is an amazing accomplishment.
