Mnet's Road to Kingdom, the survival program that propelled many boy groups to fame, is set to make its return for a second season this September, hosted by Taemin of SHINee. Originally conceived as a prequel to Kingdom: Legendary War, Road to Kingdom will once again feature seven talented boy groups competing in several rounds of intense battles and stage rivalries to claim the ultimate prize.

 

The inaugural season of Road to Kingdom launched in 2020, featured THE BOYZ, Pentagon, ONF, Golden Child, Verivery, ONEUS, and TO1. THE BOYZ emerged as the winners of the first season, earning a spot in the main survival show, Kingdom: Legendary War.

With the announcement of the second season, let's revisit one of the most iconic performances by THE BOYZ: "CHECKMATE." The performance starts with a slow, dramatic buildup, featuring members wearing crowns that are passed and placed on each other's heads. The stage is designed with a black-and-white checkered floor, reminiscent of a chessboard, fitting the song’s title. The addition of swords and a gleaming throne further enhances the dramatic flair of their live performance.

 

The contestants, audience, and hosts were collectively captivated by their impressive display of talent and versatility, demonstrating why THE BOYZ rightfully won the season. Notably, Road to Kingdom: Ace of Ace will premiere on September 19 on Mnet, airing every Thursday at 9 pm KST.
