Kim Dong Han: Always Improving

Kim Dong-han is a unique figure in the K-pop world, with a career that has spanned multiple musical ventures and personal growth. His journey started on the reality show Produce 101 Season 2 in 2017, where he gained initial recognition despite not making it into the final group, Wanna One. His elimination at 29th place did not deter his ambitions, as he soon debuted in JBJ, a group formed by fans' votes. JBJ enjoyed a brief but impactful career, releasing several successful EPs, such as Fantasy, before disbanding after just seven months due to contractual obligations.

After JBJ's disbandment, Kim launched his solo career in June 2018 with his debut EP D-Day, featuring the lead single "Sunset." The release not only marked a new chapter in his career but also showcased his versatility as an artist. He quickly followed it up with two more EPs, D-Night and D-Hours AM 7:03, the latter of which he referred to as part of a “time trilogy.” He noted a personal connection to the third EP because of his involvement in its creative process, particularly with the title track, "Focus." This marked his growth from a reality-show contestant to an established solo artist.
Kim’s career took another turn in 2020 when he joined the boy band WEi, under Oui Entertainment. This transition added another layer to his musical career, as he was no longer a solo artist but part of a collective once again. WEi debuted with the EP Identity: First Sight, and the group’s energetic performances and cohesive sound have since earned them a loyal fanbase. As part of WEi, Kim has been able to explore different musical styles and concepts, further enhancing his versatility as an artist.

In addition to his music, Kim has also ventured into acting. He made his theater debut in 2020 with the musical Iron Mask, based on The Man in the Iron Mask, and later starred in a web series, Trap. These roles allowed him to showcase another side of his talents, broadening his appeal beyond music and into acting.
Throughout his career, Kim has been candid about the emotional ups and downs of being in the limelight. He has spoken about feeling regretful watching newer seasons of Produce 101, believing he could perform better if given another chance. Despite these feelings, he remains committed to improving his craft and evolving as an artist, aspiring to be remembered for his music and his ability to bring comfort to his fans.
