Girl’s Day: A K-pop Girl Group to Remember!

K-pop girl groups are known for their bubbly pop music and vibrant concept photos for each EP or album they release. In the past decade, a handful of girl groups have dominated the worldwide charts with their eclectic style of music that goes beyond the boxed ideas. But there was a girl group before the K-pop explosion that made waves with their music videos with each comeback. Dream T Entertainment’s K-pop girl group Girl’s Day is the group in question.

Girl’s Day started off as a septet but after three members departed the group, it remains to be active as a quartet consisting of Hyeri, Sojin, Minah and Yura. Over their seven year journey as an active K-pop girl group, the girls have created waves with their dance pop numbers. Their songs like “Expectation,” “Something,” “Female President” have remained fan favorites even after a decade since these songs were first released. One thing that remained consistent in Girl's Day’s songs and music is that they held the aura to capture any viewer/listener’s attention from the very first minute. Borderline provocative themes, bold costumes, and lyrics that sent a strong message were all wrapped up in sonically indulgent tracks that helped Girl’s Day stand apart from the crowd.

Their last EP Girl's Day Everyday #5 was released in March 2017 while the girls were still a part of Dream T. In 2019, the remaining active four members decided to not renew their contracts with Dream T but they maintain a stance that they have not disbanded. Despite this announcement, there has been no new music from Girl’s Day since 2017.

Girl’s Day members are also prolific actors. Hyeri is noted for her energetic roles in dramas like My Roommate is a Gumiho. But her most memorable role till date remains to be the female lead in Reply 1988. Sojin on the other hand has made her mark in the acting world with memorable roles in dramas like Alchemy of Souls, Shooting Stars, to name a few. Minah tried her hand at solo music and acting in dramas like Absolute Boyfriend. Yura ventured into acting with supporting roles in dramas like Radio Romance. Currently, Minah and Yura are pursuing higher education at Dongduk Women’s University.

The girls last came together in July 2017 to celebrate their seventh debut anniversary. What do you think of Girl’s Day’s songs? Are you awaiting the group’s comeback?
