Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Space Station” by SUN KIM
著者: SUN KIM

One thing we love about this track is that if you go into this song blind and knowing nothing about the artist, it’s not immediately clear what you’re going to get. The guitar tone is thick and middy, with sharp attack and subtle delay. It would be easy to assume that this is going to be an indie pop/rock track in the vein of early 1975 or The Band CAMINO.
Instead, the song reveals itself as an intricate and plucky smooth jazz number complete with smooth keys and intricate snare work. SUN KIM is a jazz and neo-soul (or neo-seoul in this case) veteran. The bass work is stellar, there’s a romping keyboard solo, and overall it’s really fun to hear everyone trading solos. The mix is fantastic, and it’s one of the funnest nu-jazz numbers I’ve experienced in some time. Cool new tone innovations here.
