We always love it when we’re fans of a musician in one of their projects and then discover they have a completely different musical project and then get to fall in love with them all over again.
Such is the case with Jina0king. Give one listen to her main project, the Korean punk rock band Billy Carter, and you’ll be shocked at how versatile Jina0king is. Her solo music is far more ethereal, atmospheric, indie, and folksy. “Green Breathe” in particular places heavy emphasis on space and texture, with her clean, plucked guitars drenched in reverb.
Her vocals are understated, whispery, and mixed down in lofi fashion. The song’s highest emotional points are when a clear, pristinely melodic whistle cuts through the mix and gives you something to latch onto. Her solo music is surprisingly heartbreaking.
