Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “GGONDAE” by Wetter
著者: Wetter

Man, parents just don’t understand, do they? Just about every person has felt this at some point, whether as a kid, an angsty teen, or as an adult trying to find your own way through life. “GGONDAE” by Wetter, despite carrying an incredibly chill vibe in the instrumental, carries that sort of sharp generational rebuke in the lyrics.
For those who don’t speak Korean, the word ‘ggondae’ can be likened to the English epithet “ok boomer.” They aren’t exactly the same, but for the sake of this short review, you can think of them similarly. The song is a laid-back, dismissive sort of groove that sort of brines itself in the contempt for the generational differences. This laid-back feel stagnates, occasionally breaking character, until the last minute explodes into a heavy guitar-fueled rage against the establishment. Also bonus points for sampling Danny Devito in Matilda. *chef kiss*
