Things come to a head in the HYBE/ADOR controversy

We’ve said this before, but unfortunately we have to say it again: things just keep getting worse for Min Hee Jin and NewJeans. Between the unearthed evidence of NewJeans plagiarizing Mexican girl group Jeans to former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin being sued by HYBE for trying to take the label independent, it’s been nothing but bad news for the last month or so.

Now, things have taken another turn.

BELIFT LAB – another HYBE subsidiary – has taken legal action against Min Hee Jin for defamation and business obstruction. BELIFT LAB operates independently of HYBE Corporation but receives support through their partnership.

Why did BELIFT LAB file a complaint? As ILLIT’s agency, they are alleging that Min Hee Jin’s very public (and now extremely ironic) accusation that ILLIT plagiarized NewJeans, as well as her public accusations against HYBE itself, have caused significant damage to their artists. BELIFT LAB has already provided evidence to authorities to support their claims and to refute those made by Min Hee Jin.

Some of the damage cited include mental and emotional damage due to harassment online and in the media.

A HYBE shareholders’ meeting is scheduled for May 31 to replace Min Hee Jin and the executive team at ADOR. Candidates for new CEO and board members include Lee Jae Sang, Kim Joo Young, and Lee Kyung Joon. These are HYBE’s chief security officer, HYBE’s chief human resources officer, and HYBE’s chief financial officer respectively.
