THE BOYZ: Down-To-Earth Performers

It’s immediately apparent that THE BOYZ are simply a group of down-to-earth young men pursuing and succeeding in their passion. They’ve got a toolbox of great skills, from being able to shift from concept to concept, having amazing live performances, and having success on survival shows like Road to Kingdom and Kingdom.

THE BOYZ debuted on December 6th, 2017, under Cre.Ker Entertainment with their lead single “Boy.” The boy group was originally a 12-member group composed of Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, JuHaknyeon, Sunwoo, Hwall, and Eric. Before debuting, various members appeared in other artists’ MVs, whether in cameo or lead roles. Many members were also contestants on other music shows before their debut. Although Hwall left the group in 2019 due to health issues, the group has remained popular, primarily in South Korea.

THE BOYZ has changed over the years but done so with grace. In the beginning, the boy group embraced a “boy next door” concept, with colorful and fun songs like “Bloom Bloom.” Their earlier music didn’t gather much attention, but their shift to darker themes has certainly helped their popularity, especially songs like the sexy and intense “The Stealer.”

THE BOYZ’s songs are catchy but shine brighter in live performances. One great example of their performance prowess is their performance of “Reveal,” on Road to Kingdom.

Speaking of Road to Kingdom, THE BOYZ won that competition and moved on to appear in the show’s sequel, Kingdom. Although the group mostly had popularity in South Korea, the group has gained more widespread international popularity through their appearances on these shows.

THE BOYZ exemplify organic growth in the K-pop industry. The group has since become part of the label IST Entertainment, a merger of their debut label and PlayM Entertainment. As they continue to shift between concepts, deliver amazing live performances, and leverage their opportunities to appear on survival shows, the group is sure to continue to gain popularity.
