Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “No Make Up” by Zion.T

If you want a track with an instrumental hook so soulful, sexy, and tasty that it’ll immediately make you stank face, well: here you go. “No Make Up” by Zion.T opens with an attention grabbing e-piano lick before locking into polyrhythmic hits between e-piano, piano, synth, drums, and bass. As the intro progresses, the piano tastefully expands the song’s harmony, which subtly adds depth and intrigue. It’s masterfully arranged.

Then Zion.T enters with well-delivered vocals and catchy melodies. His harmonies are on point, and the vocal production across the board deftly blends harmonies, doubles, octaves, and auto-tuned/vocoded textures. It’s a really, really fun listen.
