Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Lullaby” by ROCOBERRY
Oleh ROCOBERRY

The South Korean indie duo Roco and Conan (AKA Berry) have made a career composing delicate folk ballads and chilled indie pop love songs that pair exceptionally well with Korean dramas. Today’s pick is the effulgent “Lullaby,” which makes excellent use of acoustic guitar, piano, light slide guitar, and a male/female vocal (featuring ONEW). It’s beautiful.
Everything about this song is intentional, including the choice to wait painstakingly until the half-way point in the song to introduce beautifully engineered drums and a prominent brushed snare. Brief, cascading piano features add nuance and intrigue and the smooth vocals threaten to wash you out into an ocean of wonder.
It’s no wonder Roco and Conan ended up married. When you write songs this beautiful and romantic together, you kind of have to.
