Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Aqua Man” by Beenzino

Oleh Beenzino

Beenzino’s voice is like nothing you’ve ever heard—a distinctive blend of charm and bright delivery that’s oddly hypnotic and irresistibly addictive. His unique sound captures you from the first note, with charismatic rap delivery, smooth sung sections, and instrumentals that blend modern pop hip hop and classic R&B.

I’m a sucker for tremolo-heavy e-pianos, and this song has them in spades. The tremolo is deliciously panned between speakers and wonderfully supplemented by show-stealing synths. It’s magical. If you’re a fan of Common – or Chicago soul in general – you’ll find a lot to love in Beenzino. I apologize in advance: the chorus of “Aqua Man” is going to get stuck in your head for days.
