Sungwoon: Wanna One to Winning One

Ha Sung-woon, also known simply as Sungwoon, rose to prominence through his involvement in two notable K-pop groups, Hotshot and Wanna One. Born on March 22, 1994, in South Korea, Sungwoon’s musical journey began with his debut in Hotshot in 2014, where he served as the main vocalist. However, it wasn’t until his appearance in Produce 101 Season 2 that his fame truly skyrocketed. This survival show, which aired in 2017, featured him as a contestant, and by the final episode, Sungwoon had secured enough votes to join the temporary boy group Wanna One. The group quickly became one of the most popular K-pop acts during its short-lived but impactful tenure, with Sungwoon contributing both his vocal talents and charisma to their rise.

In addition to his group activities, Sungwoon made numerous appearances on variety shows, further cementing his popularity. During his time in Wanna One, he participated in sub-units, like Lean on Me, and performed notable tracks such as "Forever and a Day." His growing visibility on programs like King of Masked Singer and Law of the Jungle showcased his versatile talents beyond the music stage. Though Wanna One disbanded at the end of 2018, Sungwoon’s connection with the group remained strong, as evidenced by his participation in their final concerts in early 2019.

Following the disbandment of Wanna One, Sungwoon embarked on his solo career with the release of his debut extended play, My Moment, in February 2019. The album featured five tracks, all written and composed by him, with the lead single "Bird" gaining widespread attention. His solo career was marked by numerous fan meetings, including sold-out events across Asia, demonstrating his strong fan base. Sungwoon continued his creative endeavors, both musically and personally, as he took part in production and promotional activities, even serving as the executive producer for his debut project.

Sungwoon’s work extended beyond just music. He took part in charity and awareness campaigns, including projects with UNICEF, and participated in television shows such as We Play, where his skills as an entertainer shone. His collaborations with fellow artists, including a notable partnership with Dynamic Duo's Gaeko on the track "Riding," highlighted his versatility and ability to explore different musical styles. His second EP, BXXX, released in 2019, marked a shift in his musical tone, with the dramatic single "Blue" showcasing his vocal range and emotional depth.

As his career progressed, Sungwoon continued to release new music, including several EPs like Twilight Zone, Mirage, and Strange World. His projects reflected a maturing artist willing to explore new genres and lyrical themes. Even during his mandatory military service, Sungwoon’s influence on the K-pop scene remained strong, with fans eagerly anticipating his return. His personal touch on every project, combined with his natural talent, has made Sungwoon a unique and beloved figure in the K-pop industry.
