sEODo Band: Fusing the old and the new through music and visuals
Por Nandini Iyengar

Oftentimes, there comes a time when you see a delectable mix of methods, both old and new which bring out a vibrant new version. If you have been looking for such a mix of music from the K-indie world, then let me introduce you to sEODo band.
sEODo band is a Korean fusion band that incorporates traditional Korean singing and music making styles within the realms of modern tunes. The band released its new album Breakthrough with the title track “NillRiRi.” For the concept photo of the album, the band released three sets of pictures along with the album cover. For the album cover, we see a black and white pictorial with the words ‘Break’ and ‘Through’ covering the top and bottom. Sandwiched between these words is an intricate sketch layout of some traditional Korean symbols and icons like an evil mask, some cultural flags and human caricatures dressed in celebratory clothing. We also see a small rectangle square in red on the top right corner.
Coming to the concept photos, we see the six-piece band in a new avatar for each set. In the first set, we see the members dressed in loose-fitting formal suit and pant sets in shades of copper, golden and brown, with a contrasting tie to complete the look. The members are standing in what looks like a traditional thatched room in a small house. There are books, rolled bamboo mats and a few other adornments in the background. In the second set of photos, we again see them in formal suit and pant sets, but this time, they are standing in a serene grassy field. The attire is silver with contrasting ties to complete the set. They are seen holding their instruments and looking straight at the camera. In the third and final set, sEODo band members are dressed up in what looks like a battle uniform. They are wearing loose fitting yellow, red or dark green bottoms with a snug fitting upper clothing. In addition to that, they are wearing matching red hoodies and an X-like belt over their attire.
