Non-K-Pop Spotlight: “LOVE SONG” by MEMI

We’ve talked about MEMI a few times now, and we’d love to be the first to introduce you to her newest track: “LOVE SONG.” The song is a bit of a departure for her. Don’t get us wrong, it’s still solidly in the harder rock styles MEMI is known for, but this time she leans more into the classic early-2000s sound of emo and pop punk.

The track is riffy, heavy, and an absolute bop. It should be noted that this isn’t a mere pastiche of pop punk or emo music, like has been common in online spaces the last few years. Instead, the song is clearly a love letter to the popular genres of yesteryear. Instead of creating a derivative, formulaic parody of the music she’s drawing from, MEMI uses “LOVE SONG” as a space to blend these influences with other rock and pop styles she enjoys. This makes for a truly nostalgic yet fresh sounding track with a ton of emotion and fun behind it.
