Junsu: Idol, Artist, Entrepreneur

Kim Jun-su, better known as Junsu or XIA, is a versatile South Korean artist renowned for his skills in singing, songwriting, dancing, and musical theater. Originally debuting in 2003 as a member of the iconic boy band TVXQ, he quickly gained fame under the stage name Xiah Junsu, with "Xiah" representing his goal of becoming a star across Asia.

After achieving massive success with TVXQ, Junsu, along with two other members, left the group in 2009 following a legal dispute with SM Entertainment over their contract terms. This pivotal moment led to the formation of JYJ. Junsu's solo debut came in 2010 with the Japanese EP Xiah, which peaked at number two on the Oricon singles chart. Despite facing challenges, including a hiatus in Japan due to conflicts with Avex Trax, Junsu thrived, especially in musical theater. His portrayal of Wolfgang in the South Korean production of Mozart earned him critical acclaim and showcased his versatility.

As a member of JYJ, alongside Kim Jaejoong and Park Yoochun, Junsu continued to explore his musical talents, releasing several albums and EPs that blended various languages and styles. Even though JYJ faced restrictions from major South Korean television channels due to SM Entertainment's influence, their music, including Junsu's solo projects, consistently topped charts, demonstrating their strong fan base and market presence.

Junsu's solo career further cemented his status in the industry. His albums Tarantallegra and Incredible not only dominated the Gaon albums chart but also made waves internationally, featuring on the Billboard World Albums chart. Known for his "ticket power," Junsu's concerts and musical performances are often sold out, reflecting his charismatic stage presence and the deep connection he has with his fans.

In 2021, Junsu took a significant step by founding his own agency, PALMTREE ISLAND, where he serves as CEO. This move gave him greater control over his artistic direction and business dealings, further establishing him as a dynamic force in both music and theater. Junsu's journey from boy band idol to a multifaceted solo artist and entrepreneur highlights his resilience and enduring appeal in a challenging industry.
