Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Shoe Shelf” by Playbook

This is the first K-indie Spotlight that could properly be labeled as indie folk. A prominent genre in the west with a distinct sound, it often features prominent, subdued vocals over acoustic instrumentation. Playbook nails the vibe, but adds an extra layer of experimentation at the thrilling 1:25 mark. Detuned mellotron and clarinet enter, making this song suddenly feel like a vintage cut from the ‘20s. It’s a breezy, quick listen, and accomplishes a ton sonically in it’s remarkably short runtime. It’s really cool.
