Collab Corner: BTS X Lego

Did you know that K-pop megastars BTS have collaborated on a track with Danish toy company Lego? Wait, that’s not quite right..
Collab Corner usually covers music, so why is Lego here? Sure, Lego has released some ‘music’ (mostly brick-related white noise meant to be appreciated as sounds to sleep to or the like), but this collaboration was much more typical for what you would expect from the toy company. BTS was immortalized in a Lego set!
The set depicts scenes and props from the group’s “Dynamite” music video that saw international success in 2020, and was designed as part of the Lego Ideas line. Lego Ideas is a program where members of the fan community can submit their own models to be considered for official release if they receive enough votes from the community and pass company approval. Fans Josh and Jacob (who go by JBBrickFanatic and BangtanBricks online) designed the first draft of the set that playfully captures the iconic imagery of the MV.
The (plastic) brick-built store includes several nods to BTS’ discography and other easter eggs related to the Grammy-nominated single, but the highlight has to be the minifigures. Each member of the group has been recreated as a minifigure with exclusive hairpieces and outfits that match their video appearance. It’s enough to get any BTS fan to switch their tune to “Everything is Awesome” for a few minutes.
The set ‘debuted’ last year, so this is admittedly not new news, but it is still cool to see the love of K-pop spring up in unusual places! Who would have thought there would be much crossover between ARMY and AFOL (Lego fan community for Adult Fans Of Lego). It’s neat to see a genre so near and dear to many get celebrated on this scale.
The set is still available for fans looking for a way to take their collection (Lego or BTS) to the next level. You can check it out on the Lego website here.
