Bunnies speak out: NewJeans fans issue collective statement

In K-pop, every artist has a fandom. But unlike other music cultures, these fans are highly organized with names, chapters, traditions, etc. In fact, they’re so organized that they can issue official statements on matters concerning their favorite artist.

Such is the case for the NewJeans fandom, which refers to themselves as Bunnies. Here’s their official statement on the injunction against HYBE, which was recently issued by a South Korean court in favor of Min Hee Jin, current CEO of NewJeans’ label ADOR. It reads:

“We hope that the current organization of ADOR, as led by Min Hee Jin, will remain stable, and that the parent company HYBE will provide maximum support, including an emotionally stable environment, for NewJeans’ activities.

One of the reasons that the current situation occurred is because CEO Min Hee Jin and the NewJeans members did not receive emotional stability from HYBE. We urge HYBE to fulfill its duties as a parent company and resolve internal issues without exposing them to the outside world, so that NewJeans can continue to grow.

As fans who love NewJeans and their music, we cannot just sit by and watch as NewJeans loses their beautiful shine and has their growth stunted. If HYBE abuses its position as the majority shareholder of ADOR, reneges on its promises of good faith, and attempts to abandon NewJeans and the people who nurtured them, then we will fight back with all our might.

The NewJeans fandom Bunnies will be watching to see if HYBE clearly understands the court's decision, and strives to provide support instead of creating unnecessary disputes.

We will continue to monitor NewJeans and CEO Min Hee Jin to ensure that they can continue to operate in a stable environment… We are working with people from many different fields to develop strategies to protect NewJeans.

We hope to see this matter concluded quickly and urge the parties to come to an agreement.”
