Billlie: Mystic Story’s First Girl Group
Por Nandini Iyengar

Mystic Story has had a history of debuting K-pop groups with a youthful and energetic charm. The label debuted its first girl group Billlie in 2021. The group consisted of six members - Moon Sua, Suhyeon, Haram, Tsuki, Siyoon and Haruna - but a seventh member, Sheon, joined post-debut. Currently, Billlie consists of seven members.
Since Billlie can be derived from the Korean word for rain, "Bi," "11," and "lie," it is spelled with three Ls: Bi11lie. The group's legend—"When the 11th bell rings in the middle of a purple rain, something strange happens"—got the number "11"; members of the group lie about what happened to keep the incident a secret. To help the audience connect with them, they communicate their "B-sides, the inner-self that everyone has inside them" through their moniker.

Billlie debuted in 2021 with the mini album The Billage of Perception: Chapter One. The story of this mini-album continued for two more chapters. In the following years, the group went on to release several single albums and mini-albums that kept the flame of their success alive. The group’s music can be termed as dance-pop for most of their songs give a youthful, energetic and positive vibe. But this does not mean that the group does not experiment. With each comeback, we get to see something different with the group in terms of concepts, genres and performance style.

Member Moon Sua is the sister of the late Moonbin, who was a part of ASTRO. Following Moonbin’s death in April 2023, Moon Sua went on a hiatus. She returned to the group in April 2024. Member Suhyeon, also on a hiatus since June 2023, returned at the same time as Moon Sua.
All seven members are set to comeback on October 16 with the group’s fifth mini album Of All That We Lost. The mini-album’s lead single track “Memory Candy” includes a narration by pop star IU. IU also participated in writing the song’s lyrics.
