Berry Good (but Not Quite Good Enough)

Berry Good was a girl group who formed in 2014 under Asia Bridge Entertainment and officially disbanded in 2021. Their musical journey was characterized by frequent changes in style and concept, showcasing their versatility and adaptability in the competitive K-pop industry. The group went through numerous lineup changes throughout its career, starting with the departure of three original members in early 2015 and the addition of new members over the years.

Berry Good's early years were marked by frequent member changes and various musical releases. Their debut single "Love Letter," a remake of a Click-B song, marked their entry into the K-pop scene. Their second single, "Because of You," was released in February 2015 after three new members replaced the departing original members. Their third single, "My First Love," came out later that year, featuring two music videos, one with actress Kim Bo-ra. In 2016, they successfully crowdfunded their first mini-album, Very Berry, and released the mini-album Glory later that year, which included their track "Don't Believe." The group continued to experiment with their image and music style, incorporating EDM and tropical house elements.

In 2017, Berry Good adopted a unique "part-timer concept" for promoting their single "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo," where they experienced part-time jobs and donated proceeds to the needy. This period also saw the launch of their first sub-unit, Berry Good Heart Heart, and their first full-length album, Free Travel, in 2018. Despite facing challenges like member Sehyung's ankle fracture and Taeha's departure due to contract expiration, the group continued to release new music and perform, including their first concert in Japan.

By 2019, Berry Good faced more lineup changes and health issues, leading to the departure of member Taeha and a hiatus for Daye. The group released their mini-album "Fantastic" as a five-member group but had to discontinue promotions shortly after due to Taeha's departure. In 2020, they returned as a quartet with the digital single "Accio" and later released their fourth mini-album, Undying Love, in early 2021. However, by February 2021, members Gowoon and Seoyul had left the group, leading to the eventual disbandment of Berry Good in May 2021.

What made Berry Good unique in the K-pop industry was their ability to constantly reinvent themselves through different concepts and musical styles. They embraced a variety of genres, from dance tracks to ballads and EDM, and engaged with their fans through innovative crowdfunding campaigns. Their adaptability and willingness to experiment with their image set them apart from many other groups. However, the frequent lineup changes and hiatuses also set them apart from the rest in a less than desirable way. Despite their relatively short career, Berry Good left a legacy of diverse musical and creative approaches to K-pop.
